Step-by-Step: How to Set Default Fonts in Microsoft Word

Follow these simple steps to configure default fonts for all future Word documents:

Step 1: Open Font Settings Box

  1. Open Microsoft Word.
  2. On Home tab, look at the Font group section.
  3. Click the small arrow icon ↘ at bottom-right corner of Font box (or press keyboard shortcut Ctrl + D).

Step 2: Configure English & Khmer Fonts

Inside Font dialog box, you will see two main font sections:

  1. Latin text (English & Numbers):
  • Font: Select your favorite English font (for example: Times New Roman or Arial).
  • Font style: Select Regular.
  • Size: Select 12.
  1. Complex scripts (Khmer Unicode):
  • Font: Select your favorite Khmer font (for example: Khmer OS Battambang or Kantumruy Pro).
  • Font style: Select Regular.
  • Size: Select 11 or 12.
â„šī¸ Information
â„šī¸ Why 2 Font Sections? Microsoft Word separates English fonts (Latin text) from Khmer fonts (Complex scripts). Setting both guarantees English letters type in Times New Roman while Khmer letters automatically type in Khmer OS Battambang without manually switching fonts!

Step 3: Apply Default to All Future Documents

  1. Look at bottom-left corner of Font window and click Set As Default button.
  2. A popup window will ask you: "Do you want to set the default font to...?"
  3. Select the second option: "All documents based on the Normal.dotm template?"
  4. Click OK.
