How to Use & Manage Slide Master in PowerPoint (Video in Khmer)

Hello all guys! Welcome back to word.rean.me by Rean Computer 101! Today I show you how to use and manage Slide Master and apply multiple design themes in Microsoft PowerPoint!

Step 1: How to Open & Edit Slide Master

Slide Master controls default fonts, logo position, colors, and layout templates for your entire presentation:

  1. Go to View tab on top ribbon menu > click Slide Master.
  2. Left side panel shows top parent master slide and child layout templates.
  3. Click on top main parent master slide:
  • Insert company or school logo at top right corner.
  • Set master title font (e.g. Khmer OS Muol Light) and body font (Khmer OS Battambang).
  • Format footer text and slide number color.
  1. Click Close Master View button on top ribbon. All existing and new slides will update formatting automatically!

Step 2: How to Apply Multiple Design Themes in 1 File

If you want different slide sections to use different background color themes:

  1. Select specific slide thumbnails on left panel (e.g. slides 5 to 10).
  2. Go to Design tab on top bar.
  3. Find your preferred theme in Themes gallery.
  4. Right click on theme thumbnail > select Apply to Selected Slides (do NOT left click directly or it changes all slides!).
  5. Now slides 1-4 use Theme A and slides 5-10 use Theme B in same presentation file!

Step 3: How to Create Custom Slide Layout Placeholders

  1. In Slide Master view, click Insert Layout button to create new layout.
  2. Click Insert Placeholder dropdown arrow > choose Picture, Text, Chart, or Table.
  3. Click and drag mouse on slide to draw placeholder box.
  4. Click Rename button to give layout custom name (e.g. Picture Comparison Layout).
  5. Click Close Master View.
  6. On Home tab, click New Slide or Layout button > select your custom layout!

💡 Tip 5: Save Custom Theme Template Go to Design tab > click theme arrow dropdown > select Save Current Theme (.thmx) to reuse your Slide Master design in future presentation projects!
