Hello everyone! Today I show you one very useful trick in Microsoft Word. You can have Portrait page and Landscape page in the same document! Many people not know this. Let go learn!

What is Portrait and Landscape?

  • Portrait β€” paper is tall (like normal A4). This is default in Word.
  • Landscape β€” paper is wide (turn sideways). Good for big table or wide image.

> πŸ’‘ Tip: Use Portrait for normal text document. Use Landscape for wide table, chart, or image that not fit in Portrait.

How to Mix Portrait and Landscape in Same Document

Normal people think you must choose one β€” but no! You can mix both in same file. Here how:

  1. Go to the page you want change to Landscape (or Portrait).
  2. Click at the start of that page β€” put your cursor there.
  3. Go to Layout tab (top menu).
  4. Click Breaks => choose Next Page (this add section break).
  5. Now click inside the new section.
  6. Go to Layout tab again => click Orientation.
  7. Choose Landscape (or Portrait). Only that section change!

> πŸ’‘ Tip: The key is Section Break! Without section break, orientation change will affect the whole document. Section break let each part have its own setting.

> πŸ’‘ Tip: If you not see Layout tab β€” make sure you click inside the document first (not in header or footer area).

How to Check Which Section You Are In

Look at the bottom of Word window β€” you see it say something like Section 1 or Section 2. That tell you which section your cursor is in now.

How to Delete Section Break (Undo the Change)

If you want remove the section break:

  1. Go to Home tab => click Show/Hide ΒΆ button (or press Ctrl + *).
  2. You will see the section break mark appear in document.
  3. Click on the section break line and press Delete key.

> πŸ’‘ Tip: Always turn on Show/Hide ΒΆ when you work with section break. It help you see where the break is so you not confuse!

  • Header/Footer change β€” when you use section break, header and footer can also be different in each section. Good for long report!
  • Print check β€” before print, go to File => Print and look at preview. Make sure page orientation look correct.

> πŸ’‘ Tip: This trick very useful for making report that have both normal text page and wide table page. Save you from making two separate file!
