Hello all guys! Welcome back to word.rean.me by Rean Computer 101! Today I show you how to convert SmartArt diagrams and Tables into independent Shapes in Microsoft PowerPoint!

Step 1: How to Convert SmartArt Graphic to Shapes

SmartArt locks your diagram design. When you convert it to Shapes, you can edit and animate each shape box freely:

  1. Click to select your SmartArt diagram on slide.
  2. Go to SmartArt Design tab on top ribbon menu.
  3. Click Convert button on right side > select Convert to Shapes.
  4. Right-click converted diagram > select Group > Ungroup (or press shortcut Ctrl + Shift + G).
  5. Now every box, arrow, and icon becomes a separate shape that you can move, recolor, or animate individually!

Step 2: How to Convert Table Grid to Separate Shapes

PowerPoint tables have rigid cell borders. Converting table to shapes allows custom gradients, shadow effects, and per-cell animations:

  1. Click to select your table in PowerPoint > press Ctrl + C to copy.
  2. Click on empty space on slide.
  3. Go to Home tab > click Paste arrow dropdown > select Paste Special (or press shortcut Ctrl + Alt + V).
  4. Choose Picture (Enhanced Metafile) > click OK.
  5. Select the pasted picture > press Ctrl + Shift + G to Ungroup.
  6. Click Yes when PowerPoint popup asks to convert picture into Microsoft Office drawing object.
  7. Press Ctrl + Shift + G one more time to fully break table cells apart into separate shape boxes!
